Keira Knightley
in
Keira was 16 years old at the
time of filming. She played Louise Barnstable, a heroin-addicted pregnant
waitress. She is befriended by 10-year-old Paul,
who's father has recently died
and has a drug addict mother. Louise gives Paul the release, fun and comfort
that he needs, but agrees to his wishes to try heroin for himself. When
his mother sees Paul high from Louise's drugs, she finally decides to get
treatment herself. With one baby already in care, Louise is due to give
birth again, and does so prematurely after being beaten up by her drug
dealer. At the end of the film, she has kicked her drugs habit, only to
turn to prostitution instead.
Filmed at Three Mills Studios,
London E3 and on location in Upton Park, London E13, between 13th January
and 3rd March 2002.
Premiered at the 2002 London
